Our Mission & Vision

The Department of Integrated Design was established to nurture integrated design experts who generate creative value for human, industrial, cultural, and future communities through an interdisciplinary lens and design thinking. Based on the philosophy of the College of Human Ecology, which explores the interaction between humans and the environment, the Department of Human Environment and Design was founded in 1996 as the first institution in Korea to focus on training design experts who encompass the entire spectrum of human life-related design. As the role of design expanded beyond industry to include social areas, the department changed its name in 2024 to Integrated Design and strengthened its educational framework to continue advancing our understanding of human-centered and integrated design that can respond to issues in shifting societal, cultural, technological, and future contexts.

The Department of Integrated Design provides a framework for education that delivers sustainable visions for humans, society, and future generations based on humanistic knowledge and design philosophy, as well as the educational foundation needed for developing and implementing creative ideas. With integrated talents in communication, fashion, and product design, interdisciplinary approaches to design management, and the use of technology to improve our distinctive integrated design practise, the department focuses on generating design experts who can work in a variety of industries.

The Integrated Design Department is divided into an undergraduate programme centred on interdisciplinary theories and the practical skill of developing the aesthetics of integrated design, and a graduate programme centred on integrated design research, and it focuses on enhancing the education and academic depth of integrated design by linking the undergraduate and graduate programmes.
